Zany twists to favorite tales

Fairy tales are spoofed in “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales,” a family friendly play set to premiere this weekend at the Chance Theater.
The play, scheduled to run through March 6, is an adaptation of a children’s book with the same title written by Jon Scieszka and illustrated by Lane Smith. Irreverent spins are put on the familiar stories of Cinderella, the Ugly Duckling, Jack and the Beanstalk and other favorites, said Casey Long, managing director of the Chance Theater.
“Every story has a zany and crazy outcome,” Long said. “It’s just as enjoyable for adults as it is for kids, much like the way the ‘Shrek’ movies were for families.”
